Core, Frontier, In-between

Can told me there's a distinct lack of clarity about the Terran Sphere Core actually is, how far it extends, and which factions are in it. He then asked I try to clarify this.
So here's this discussion.
In my mind, the Core consists of the Solar Union and the shell of nations too big for it to absorb that surround it, this would include most members of the TAIC (sans Rigel), specifically the T-corp and the Confederation of Outlying Systems (lolmisnomer)

Opinion gathering time, should this be different? Am I an idiot? etc.

I'm happy for the T Corp to be in the core, but I doubt we need to have all the major factions packed in there. I would imagine the outer most part of the sphere (the frontier?) is mainly independent planets or small clusters of united colonies, but from the middle of the sphere and inward, I think we'd be justified in putting larger factions.

By definition I hoped the COS would have parts of it reaching the Frontier colonies, perhaps the COS has a belt of territory going all the way from the core, through the hinterlands and touching upon the Frontier?

Erm, Terra?
Have you looked at the galactic map?
The Frontier is several thousand ly from the core. Not even the COI could keep your colonies under control with that big a communications lag.
Anyway, yes, the hinterlands have major nations as well, such as good ol Rigel, but most of the real superpowers are in or near the core simply because those regions have had longest to develop into superpowers.

Though I'm not sure if the Kol Union counts as a major nation, I had imagined that they plotted a course to a faraway system early on simple to ensure that they'd have a minimum of interference from other colonies.

I think we need clearer qualifiers for what is and is not a region.

For instance, the Core extends out X lightyears and beyond that, the Hinterlands extend out Y lightyears and beyond that, the Frontier extends our Z lightyears, right to the limit of the Sphere.

And, more importantly, we can change the name of the Hinterlands if you dislike it, Aldaris.

That's true. Do we have a value for the radius of the Terran Sphere? If we do, I'd suggest not just chopping it up into equal thirds. I imagine the frontier would probably be the thinest shell(?) of the sphere, then the core, and finally the hinterlands as the largest sort of bloated region.

Just my opinion though.

Okay, quick and dirty figures:
Core: Radius of 500 ly from Sol.
Hinterlands: another 2000 ly or so.
Frontier: The outer 500 ly

This gives the TS a radius of 3k ly, giving it a diameter of 6kly, which is close enough to what's on the map.
This is so open to change you could compare it to the wooden gates of a city that has been completely burned down. Twice.

So from these results, what do we get?

Obviously, Rigel is outside the core at 800 LY from Sol. I'm fine with that.

Where will the COS, Kol Union, and Taurus Corporation end up?
