Human Phonetic Alphabet

The Human Phonetic Alphabet is an alphabetic system of phonemic notation based on the Latin alphabet. It is used as the standard phonemic notation system by the Solar Union, and, consequently, most other Human groups have adopted the standards as well. Essentially, it is an extension of the previously existing International Phonetic Alphabet to cover recent linguistic developments. It is often used by Humans to learn how to approximately pronounce the names of foreign or alien words. Nevertheless, the HPA does not attempt to systematize the sounds of all alien languages, but only those of human languages, in an effort to spread Terran culture. Most alien species instead choose to rely upon their own transcription systems.
