Mass Drivers

Mass drivers are devices that magnetically accelerate (drive) a mass. In general, the term refers to multi-kilometer long industrial mass drivers commonly used to transport bulk goods such as raw materials within a system, as mass drivers used for military bombardment are usually referred to as KEWs or railguns.

Mass drivers are most commonly employed on moon or asteroid mines and other such resource extraction operations not on an inhabited world. They are also used to cheaply transport goods capable of surviving the high accellerations between inhabited worlds, although atmospheric drag becomes a big problem in these scenarios.

Due to the potential as a wmd of an industrial scale mass driver, they are typically closely controlled and monitored by the local government.
