Nationalism

Nationalism is a strong identification of a group of individuals with a nation (as they have many things that connects each other together, like culture). Often it is a belief that an ethnic group has a right to statehood, becoming a sovereign nation-state.

It can also be the belief that the state is of primary importance, or the belief that one state is superior to all other states. In some cases the identification of a national culture is combined with a negative view of other races or cultures.

  • Ultranationalism: Defined as feeling intense support for your country, authoritarian based ideology. This can include a reduction of immigration, limit of trade, militarism, propaganda and in some cases, oppression, ranging from moderate to extreme.
  • Territorial Nationalism: inhabitants of a particular nation owe allegiance to their country of birth or adoption.
  • Left-wing Nationalism (or Socialist Nationalism, not to be confused with National Socialism): a political movement that wants to merge any left-wing politics with Nationalism. Usually for Liberation of a Nation, and self-determination.
